Commission to Adam Cockburn of Ormiston to be lord justice clerk

Commission under the great seal of this kingdom in favour of Adam Cockburn of Ormiston to be lord justice clerk being presented by himself was read and ordered to be recorded, and thereafter delivered by the lord chancellor to the said lord justice clerk, who received the same upon his knee as use is, whereof the tenor follows. Anne by the grace of God queen of Great Britain, France, and Ireland and defender of the faith, to all good men to whom our present letters will have come, greetings. Since it is abundantly satisfied to us about the integrity and exceptional qualities of character of Adam Cockburn of Ormiston, whence he may be entirely suitable for performing the duty, position and office within mentioned, know therefore that we have made, constituted and ordained, just as by the tenor of the presents we make, constitute and ordain the mentioned Adam Cockburn of Ormiston, during our pleasure only, our justice clerk in our kingdom of Scotland. By giving, granting, and assigning to the said Adam Cockburn, during the aforesaid interval, the said duty and office of justice clerk, with all honours, privileges, immunities, fees, profits, and casualties whatsoever pertaining to it, to be enjoyed and possessed by him so fully and freely in any respect and condition, which any other predecessors in the said office enjoyed the same, or at any time past could possess. In testimony whereof, we have ordered our great seal to be appended to the presents. At our court of St James’s on 8 January 1705, and in the third year of our reign. By the sign manual of our supreme lady the queen above written. Sealed at Edinburgh 22 January 1705. Sic Subscribitur John Dickson, writer to the great seal, and registered 22 January 1705.
