Letter from the Queens Majestie to the Councill anent Some ill practises and designes

Letter from the Queens Majestie to the Councill anent Some ill practises and designes Carried on, In the Kingdome of Scotland by Emissaries from France against the Government being Read the Samen was ordered to be Recorded Wherof the tenor followes.

Right Trustie and Right well beloved Cousin and Councillor Right trustie and intirely beloved Cousins and Councillors Right trusty and well beloved Cousins and Councillors Right trusty and well beloved Councillors, And trusty and well beloved Councillors, Wee greet yow well Wheras Wee have hade Severall informationes of very ill practises and designes Caried on in that our antient Kingdome of Scotland by Emissaries from France; Which might have proved dangerous if they hade not been timeously discovered; And now wee doubt not bot to provide so for our Security, as will prevent their designes; We have Laid this before such of our privy Councill as are here, And So Soon as the Severall examinationes relateing to this matter Shall be perfected They shall be transmitted to yow. Wee have ordered our Advocat to examine Some persones who Seem to be concerned in this affair; And wee desire yow to assit him therin in all the Methods that Law will allow. Mean while Wee Recommend to yow to give particular directiones for the preservation of the peace of the Countrey, And particularly by posting of the Army and providing of the Garisones Wherby all evill attempts may be frustrated or prevented And So Wee bid yow heartily farewell, Given at our Court at St Jammes’s the Eighteinth day of December 1703. And of our Reign the Second year. By her Majesties Command Sic Subscribitur Cromatie.
