Att Edinburgh the Seventeinth day of February One Thousand Seven hundred and thrie years

[Proclamation for a General Assembly]

Proclamation for calling a Generall Assembly Read approven and Signed wherof the tenor followes.
Anne by the Grace of God Queen of Great Brittaine France and Ireland defender of the faith To our Lyon king at armes and his bretheren Heraulds; Macers of our privy Councill, pursevants, messingers at armes, Our Shirriffs in that part Conjunctllie and Severallie Specially Constitute Greeting Forasmuchas Wee are informed that the late King our Royall brother of Glorious Memory did Call a Generall assembly of the church of Scotland to meet at Edinburgh in the moneth of March Jaj viic and tuo years and Did appoint the Earle of Marchmont then Chancelour to represent his Laite Majesties royall persone as his Commissioner to the said Assembly But the Consideratione of his Majesties Sicknes and Danger at that tyme haveing haisted that assembly to a Conclusione his Majesties Commissioner did desolve the same and inducted a new assembly to meet the tenth of March in this present year One thousand Seven hundred and thrie; And Seing the affairs of the Church of this our ancient kingdome Doe for the good of religion the peace of the Church and the wallfare of our kingdome So requyre And that wee are resolved That a generall assembly of this Church and natione Shall Meett and Conveen at Edinburgh upon the Said tenth of March nixt we Therefore hereby Require all the Constituent members of the said assembly to be present and attend the said day and place to meett with our Commissioner to be appointed by us for Representing our Royall persone in the said assembly and to proceed and act to the effect and for the ends abovespecified. Our Will is Herefor And wee Charge yow Strictly and Command That incontinent thir our Letters Seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and whole other marcat Crosses of the head burghes of the Severall Shyres and Stewartries within this kingdome and in our name and authority make publication hereof That non may pretend Ignorance And Ordaines these presents to be printed. Sic Subscribitur.2
