Procedure

Commission In Favors of Sir Gilbert Eliot to be one of the Clerks of privy Councill

Commission under the great seall of this kingdome In favors of Sir Gilbert Eliot Advocat to be one of the two Clerks of her Majesties privy Councill being presented by Mr Robert Forbes one of ther Clerks, The samen was Read and ordered to be Recorded; And therafter delyvered by the Lord Chancelor to the said Sir Gilbert who received the Samen upon his knee as use is; and did qualifie himself to her Majestie by swearing the oath of alledgance and Subscrybeing the same with the assurance; And the Lord Chancelor did tender to him the Oath de fideli administratione officii.

Omnibus probis hominibus totius terrae suis Clericis et Laicis Salutem Quandoquae nobis statis2 Constet de fidelitate peritia et eximis animi dotibus fidelis adlecti3 nostri Domini Gilberti Eliot advocati quibus ad munus et officium unius et4 duobus Clericis Secreti Nostri Consilii in hoc antiquo Nostro Scotis5 Regno Obeundem apprime Instructus Reddatur Noveritis Igitur Nos Nominasse Constituisse et Ordinasse sicutae6 nos tenore presentium (Cum avisamento et Consensu predilectorum et fidelissimorum nostrorum Consanguineorum et Concil[i]ariorum Jacobus Ducae de Queensberry et Georgii vicecomitis de Tarbat principalium nostrorum Status Secretariorum pro dicto Regno) Nominamus Constituimus et ordinamus eundem Dominum Gilbertum Eliot darante7 Nostro beneplacito sulummodo8 unum ex duobus Clericis secreti nostri Consilii in predicto regno cum plena eidem potestate durante spatio antedicto predictum Munus et officium cum Custodia segneti ejusdem exercendi et fuiendi9 Dando Concedendo et disponendo sicuti Nos per presentes damus concedimus et disponimus praedicto domino Gilberto Eliot omnia privilegia Immunitates salaria proficua Emolumenta et Casualitates ejusdem tam plene adeoque Libere in quovis respectu in10 conditione ac quivis alius Clericus Clericus Secreti nostri Consilii in dicto Regno nostro Scotiae iisdem per prius potitus est In Cujus Rei Testimonium presentibus Magnum Sigillum nostrum appendi Mandavimus Apud aulam nostram de St James’s vigesimo nono die Mensis Januarii anno domini Millesimo septingentesimo tertio et Anno Regni nostri primo.
