Act and Comission Mr Donald Nicolson

Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privie Councill By Mr Donald Nicolson Minister of the Gospell at St Mary’s in Tronternes in the Isle of Sky Sheuing That wher their Lordships having touards the begining of the year Jaj vic nyntie six Been pleased to Give Commission to Colonell Hill Governour of Fort William or the shirreff of Invernes For taking the petitioners oath of alleadgance to his Majestie uith the Declaration of Assurance wherby the petitioner might be qualified to Continou the exercise of his ministrie according to Law It uas the petitioners misfortune by the Great storme which lasted in that Countrey all that uinter and spring and his distance of above Eightie miles from the nearest of these places Joyned uith his old age and weaknes Having been Minister of that paroch now these threttie four years bygone that the day appointed for his going thither was elapsed befor it was possible for him to Goe And seing the said favours was Granted by their Lordships of mere pity and Indulgence to the petitioner and the poor people whom he serves and by the Blessing of God have hitherto preserved from the Infection of so many neighbouring papists since his Incumbency And that the making it effectuall tends so much to the honour and Endearing of his Majesties Laues and Government And to the Comfort and peace of the people and uill Enable the petitioner to discharge his deuty to God and to his Majestie in that remote Corner of the Countrey And therfore Humbly Craving to the effect underwryten as the said petitione Bears The saids Lords of his Majesties privie Councill Having Considered this petitione given in to them by the said Mr Donald Nicolsone and a former Act of Councill They heirby Renue the same And alloues the petitioner yet to take the oath of alleadgance and assurance And Gives pouer and Commission to the said Colonell Hill or the shirref of Invernes or his depute to adminsitrat the oath of alleadgance and assurance wher signed and subscribed by the petitioner and he who administrats the same to him To be reported to the Clerks of privie Councill betuixt and the first day of october nixt to come.
