Act Anent deficients in 1697
The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill having Considered the report made to them by a Committie of their oun Number Anent the deficients of the Levy for this present year Jaj vic nyntie seven They Find by a report under William Cochrans hand Clerk to the Commissioners of supplie in Renfrewshire that ther are tuo men deficient for the said shire And that the Clerk condescends upon the Laues but not upon the Leaders who should putt out these tuo men And therfore The Councill ordaines the said William Cochran Clerk to uplift the saids tuo men or Fourtie Shillings Sterling in place of each man And Immediately to send in the men or money to Collonell George Hamilton or such as he shall appoint And Finds that besyds these tuo Men deficient in Renfrew Shire ther are tuo other men deficient betwixt that Shire and the Shire of Air In respect of differences betwixt these tuo Shires And therfore the Councill ordaines and appointes the Commissioners of these tuo Shires to meet at Steuartoun upon the tuenty fifth day of February Instant And to Cast on these tuo men upon the said tuo shires And ordaines the Leaders of these men to send in the men or Fourtie shilling sterling for each of them to the said Collonell Hamilton or such as he shall appoint And Delayes that part of the report Anent seven men deficient by the shire of Drumfreis For which ther is ane Instrument taken against the Dutches of Buckleugh.
