[Letter to the king about disbanding the forces]

The draught of a Letter from the Councell to the King Anent the disbanding the Forces mentioned in his Majesties Letter to them read votted and approven and appointed to be Carried about to the Councellors Lodgings to be signed by them which was done and the Letter delyvered to the Lord High Chancellor.

May it please your Majestie In obedience to your Commands signified to us For Disbanding the Earle of Tullibardine and Lord Lindsays regiments of Foot and The Lord Forbes regiment of Dragoons And reducing the regiment Commanded by Colonell Hill into the ordinary Number of a battallion Conforme to the present establishment We are about the giving of the orders necessary for that effect But these regiments being at a distance and dispersed in their quarters And it being also necessary that money be provyded for Clearing their arrears which will take some tyme We have thought it our duety to represent to your Majestie That we Conceave it may be Much to the advantadge of your Majesties Service That before the disbanding of the regiments of foot to be keeped Standing should be made up of the most sufficient men In all the Regiments Speciallie seing the Earle of Tullibardins and the Lord Lindsays regiment is new Cloathed uithin these three weeks and in very Good Condition Wheras the other tuo regiments are neither thought so good men nor are they well Cloathed nor can be putt in so Good case without a Considerable expence It appears also necessary to us for the quiet of the Countrey and preventing of abuses that the souldiers to be disbanded should not be desmissed bare and Emptie But that if your Majestie please over and above their extraordinary expence subsistance They have a fourtnight farder to Carry them easily home uithout the Countreys trouble The order for reducing Colonell Hills regiment are dispatched And ue have appointed the Lord Forbes regiment to be disbanded In such manner after your Majestie shall declare your pleasure as to the said fourtnights subsistance as all disorders may be prevented These things we humbly Lay before your Majestie expecting your Commands which shall be punctuallie obeyed by May It please your Majestie your Majesties most humble most faithfull and most obedient subjects and servants, subscribitur as the sederunt Except The Earle of Morton Lord Forbess and the Lord Carmichaell And the Earle of Southerland and the provost of Edinburgh who were not in the sederunt did subscryve it.
