[Letter from the king about disbanding regiments]

A letter from his Majestie to the Councell for disbanding the Earle of Tullibairdine and Lord Lindsay ther regiments of foot and Lord Forbes ther regiments of Dragoons and for reducing Colonell Hills regiment of foot to the ordinary number of a battallion Conform to the present establishment of this Kingdome and for Laying up of the frigotts until his Majestie shall have use for them read and ordered to be recorded. Folloues the tenor of the King’s Letter

Right trustie and right well Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and Entirely Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and right well beloved Cousines and Councellors Right trustie and well Beloved Cousines and Councellors Right trustie and well Beloved Councellors And trustie and well beloved Councellors We Greet yow well Whereas we doe think fitt at this tyme to Reforme and disband some of our Forces of that our Kingdome of Scotland It is therfore Our Will and pleasure And we doe heirby authorize and require you to give orders as soon as this Shall Come to your hands for disbanding the tuo Regiments of foot Comanded by the Earle of Tullibardine and the Lord Lindsay And the Regiment of Dragoons Comanded by the Lord Forbess And to reduce the regiment of Foot Commanded by Colonell Hill Into the ordinary Number of a Battallion Conform to the present Establishment of that our Kingdome And since our service does not now require the Keeping up of the Frigotts yow are Lykeuayes to give orders for Laying up the same untill we shall have occasione for them For doing wherof this Shall be your warrand And so we bid yow heartily Farewell Given att our Court at Loo the 8th day of october 1697 And of our Reigne the 9th year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur Robert Pringle.
