Att Edinburgh the thretteenth day of December Jaj vic nynty seven years

Order

Commission Leivtenant Colonell Erskine to assist Colonell Row against Douglasses souldiers

Forasmuchas The Lords of his Majesties privie Councell Have direct their orders to John Lord Carmichaell Commander in Cheiff for the tyme of his Majesties forces within this kingdome To Command Colonell Archbald Row with the regiment under his Command with tuo troops of dragoons of the regiment under Command of the said Lord Carmichaell Immediatly to march to Stirling and by force of armes To Compell the Common souldiers of the regiment Commanded by Sir William Douglas to disband and Lay doun their armes which they have refused to doe In obedience to former orders of Councell direct to them theranent Therfore the Lords of his Majesties privie Councell Doe heirby Impouer and authorize and require and Command Leivtennant Colonell John Areskine Leivtennant Governour of the Castle of Stirling to Give all assistance to the said Colonell Row In the execution of the premisses And to use his oune outmost Indeavours by force of armes To Cause the saids Common Souldiers of the said regiment under the Command of the said Sir William Douglas to be disbanded and Lay doun their armes and to attack them by force of armes for that effect And to debarr all ill disposed persons of other disbanded regiments or any else who may Inclyne to Give assistance to the said Common souldiers from having access to the said toune of Stirling by the bridge or any otheruayes And to fyre upon them And to use all manner of violence Against them for that effect And In caise any blood death or mutilation follow on the executione of the premisses The said Leivtennant Colonell John Areskine and the haill Souldiers and officers of the garrisone within the Castle of Stirling under his Command are fully Indemnified and exonered therof And It is heirby declared that the same shall be reckoned as Good Service done to the government sic subscribitur Marchmont cancelar Tueeddale Southerland Strathmore Lauderdale Loudoun Annandale Ruglen Tarbat Adam Cockburn James Steuart Archibald Mure.
