Proclamation

Proclamation recalling former Acts or proclamations Declaring forraign victuall free of duty And ordaining all victuall to be Imported to pay deuty as before the saids former acts and proclamations

William By the Grace of God King of great Brittaine France and Ireland Defender of the faith To […] Macers of our privie Councill messengers at arms our shireffs in that part Conjunctly and Severally specially Constitut Greeting Forasmuch as by our proclamation of the date the sixth day of Agust Jaj vic nyntie six years The exacting of any Custome excise or other Imposition Laid upon victuall Imported into this Kingdome by sea or Land from any other Countrey by ane Act of parliament or book of rates uas Discharged And such lyke by ane Act of the Lords of our privie Councill dated the tuenty nynth of December Jaj vic nyntie six years all victuall Imported into this kingdome from abroad uas declared to be free of all Custome and excise or other publick dueties whatsoever And seing the forsaid proclamation and Act of Councill uere past and published for Incouraging such who should Import victuall for releive of the poor under the then scarcity and dearth which now are Competently provyded against by the plenty of victuall already Imported and the old victuall yet in the Countrey not Consumed or spent And ther being Lykewise the prospect of a very Good harvest and plentifull Cropt approaching Therfore we uith advyce of the Lords of our privie Councill Have discharged the forsaid proclamatione and Act of Councill And declare the same to be of noe furder force And heirby ordaine the Collectors and others Imployed in uplifting and Collecting of our Customes to Levy and Collect the Custome excise and other duties Imposed upon victuall Imported from any forraign Countrey by sea or Land by whatsomever Law or Act of parliament And appoint them to be Comptable to us therfore Conform to the Laues made theranent as they uere lyable to doe before the said proclamation or Act Our Will is heirfore And ue Charge yow Strictly and Command That Incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the mercat Cross of Edinburgh and to the remanent mercat Crosses of the head burghs of the severall shires and steuartries uithin this kingdome And ther In our name and authoritie make Intimation heirof That none pretend ignorance And ordaines these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the tuenty one day of July and of our reign the nynth year 1697 sic subscribitur.
