Proclamation for apprehending five persons Declared fugitives by the Commission of Justiciary for the highlands
The proclamation after Insert Being read was votted approven and signed and ordered to be recorded wherof the tenor folloues
William By the Grace of God King of Great Britaine France and Ireland Defendar of the faith To […] Macers of our privie Councill Messengers at arms our shirreffs in that pairt Conjunctly and Severally speciallie Constitut Greeting Forasmuchas It hath been signified to the Lords of our privie Councill by the Commissioners of Justiciary for the midle district of the highlands that Duncan Steuart alias Shankie Patrick Mcilglass-Ferguson John Late Mcgrigor in Rennock Duncan Roy Mcilphatrick Late Mcgrigor in Pollockro and John McClaran buy in Torray are all fugitives from the Law and Intercomuned for stouthrieff and other Capitall Crimes And that therfore it is fitt that a proclamation were emitted for apprehending the saids five fugitives Dead or alyve with a Competent reuard to the apprehender Therfore we with advyce of the Lords of our privie Councill Have thought fitt to authorize and order Lykeas we heirby order and authorize all our officers Civill or military to use all dilligence for apprehending the forsaids five persons alyve if possible or in case of resistance dead or alyve And if alive to bring and secure their persons in the first prisone ther to remaine till they underly the Law And for the Encouradgment of the said apprehender apprehending any or all the saids persons We doe further promise to the said apprehender the reuard of ten pounds Sterling for each of the saids five persons that shall be apprehended as said is And Requires the Commissioners of our Thesaury to make due payment of the same And further It is heirby declared that if any of the five saids persons shall apprehend and bring in the other four or any of them he shall for so doing be Indemnified for the said Cryme for which he is declared fugitive and lykewise receave the said reuard promised to any of our Leidges In manner forsaid And lastly we with advyce forsaid doe heirby fullie remitt pardon and Indemnifie any persone or persons who Indeavouring to apprehend the fugitives shall in case of ther resistance Mutilate or kill any of them or of their assistants assisting them by force of the said mutilation and slaughter to all Intents and purposes as amplie as if they had a remission expede under our great seall for the same Our Will is Heirfore And uee Charge yow strictly and Command that Incontinent thir our Letters seen ye pass to the mercat Cross of Edinburgh and remanent mercat Crosses of the haill head-burghs and steuartries of this our antient Kingdome And ther In our name and authority by open proclamation make publick Intimation heirof And ordaines these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the third day of Agust and of our regne the Nynth year 1697 sic subscribitur.
