Letter from The Queen’s Majestie To The Councill anent Recruits

Letter from the Queen to the Councill anent Recruits Being read was ordered to be recorded, and a Committee appointed thereon Whereof the tennor followes.

Right trusty and right well beloved Cousin and Councellor, Right trusty and right well beloved Cousins and Councellors Right trusty and well beloved Councellors And trusty and well beloved Councellors We greet yow well Whereas by the great action this year in Germany and elswhere In which it hath pleased God to bless our arms with signall success and victory. Our Army is thereby much lessned, So that there are considerable numbers of men wanting to recruit our Scots Regiments abroad, Of whose valour and behaviour we have had very satisfieing accounts: And it being boeth for the Honour of that our Ancient Kingdome and necessary for our service that our saids Regiments be timely and fully recruited. It is our Will and pleasure And we heirby authorize and require yow That yow give all due Encuragement and assistance to our officers of these Regiments in raising their saids Recruits, By allowing them to beat Drums and to take all such other methods for levying men As shall be consistent with Law; Giveing allwayes speciall orders for preventing abuses and disorders in makeing these Levies. The doeing whereof will be most acceptable to us And so we bid yow heartily farewell. Given Att our Court Att St James’s the first day of December 1704, And of our Rigne the 3d year By Her Majesties Command Sic Subscribitur. Seafield.
