Act Infavours off William Patton

Annent The petition given in and presented to the Lords of Her Majesties privie Councill Be William Paton of Panholls Shewing That about Three years since there was a most barbarouse and horrid Murder Committed By Alexander Masson upon William Lauson his Master who lived upon Diveronside in the north As they wer travelling from stirling to Blackfoord and the petitioner Being in the Country at the tyme He as one of the Justices of pace For the Shirriffdome of Pearth Conveened the Nighbourenhood and seazed seaverall passengers And went to the place wher the murder was committed and Fenced ane Court therat And to the Depositiones of witnesses And therby came to the knowledge of the murder And sent expresses upon his oun Chairges to all airts of the Country fourty mylnes distant From Blackfoord And accordingly the murder was apprehended at Killimoor travelling north And was brought back to the petitioner Who convoyed him with ane guard to Dumblaine2 within which regality the murder was Committed Wheras he was found guilty by ane Inquest and sentenced to be hanged where the murder was committed And therafter hung up in Chains, And tho the petitioner was at noe less then ane Hundered pound scots of Chairges Besydes his extraordinary paines yet the petitioner hes receaved noe pairt therof And therfor creaving to that effect aftermentioned as the said petition bears3 The Lords of Her Majesties privie Councill Haveing Considered The above petition given into them by William Paton of Panholls And the samen Being read in ther presence The saids Lords Doe heirby Recommend the petitioner To the Lords off Her Majesties Theasurie For payment makeing to him off Tuo hundereth merks For his Extraordinary Expenses pains and good service Done by the petitioner in apprehending the person of Alexander Masson Murderer and Convoying him with ane guard to Dumblaine within which Regality the murder was Committed wher he was found guilty and hanged.
