Procedure

Coronation Oath

Therafter the Coronation oath with a declaration on the back therof was also read, and ordered to be Recorded wherof the tenor followes.
Sic Supra Scribitur Anne Regina
Wee Anne By the Grace of God Queen of Scotland, England France and Ireland defender of the faith etc. faithfully promise and Swear, by this our Solemn Oath in presence of the Eternall God; That dureing the whole course of our life, Uee will Serve the Same Eternall God to the outmost of our power, according as he has requyred in his Most Holy word, and revealed and contained in the old and new Testaments; And according to the Same word Shall Mantaine the true religion of Jesus Christ, The Preaching of his Holy Word, and the due and right Ministration of the Sacraments now received and preached within the realme of Scotland. And Shall abolish and gain stand all false Religion contrary to the same; And Shall rule the people Committed to our Charge, According to the will and Command of God, Revealled in his aforsaid word; And according to the Loveable Lawes and constitutiones received in this realme; nowayes repugnant to the said world of the Eternall God; And Shall procure to the outtmost of our power to the kirk of God and whole Christian people true and perfect peace in all time comeing; That Wee Shall preserve and keep inviolated the right and rents with all Just priviledges of the Crown of Scotland. Neither Shall wee transferr nor alienat the Same; That wee Shall forbid and repress in all Estates and degrees; Reif, oppression and all kynd of wrong, And wee Shall Command and procure; That Justice and equity in all Judgments be keeped to all persones without exception; As the Lord and father of all mercies shall be mercifull to us; And wee shall be Carefull to root out all Hereticks and Enemies to the true Worship of God; That Shall be convict by the true Kirk of God of the forsaid crymes, out of our Lands and Empire of Scotland; and wee faithfully affirm the things above wryten by our Solemn Oath Sic Subscribitur. Att Her Majesties Court at St Jamess the Eight day of March 1701/2 years.
The Which Day Wee Undersubscribers Members of the privy Councill of Scotland, Being Specially Called and required by her Majestie to be present at her takeing and signeing the Coronation oath Conform to the Setlement of the Crown of Scotland; Her Majestie Did in our presence take and Signe the within writen Oath; As Witnes our hands day, Moneth, place and year of God abovewryten; The Clame of right contained in the Declaration of the Estates of Scotland and the Grivances being first read before her Majestie Sic Subscribitur Queensberie Argyll Lothian, Seafeild, Hyndfoord Mar. Morton, Eglingtoun; Teviot Strathnaver.
