Letter from the king to the Councill anent Some off the Troops within this kingdome their being Imployed abroad Read and ordered to be recorded wherof the Tennor followes
Sic Supra Scribitur William Rex
Right Trustie and Right weell beloved Cousin and Councillor; Right trustie and intirely beloved Cousins and Councillors; Right trustie and right well beloved Cousins and Councillors; Right trustie and right well beloved Cousins and Councillors, Right trustie and well beloved Councillors, And trusty and well beloved Councillors. Wee greet yow weell Wheras in the present Circumstances of affairs Wee find it Necessary to employ in our Service abroad our Regiment of Dragoons Commanded by the Viscount of Teviot; and our Regiements of foot Commanded by Collonell Row; and Collonell Ferguson; Yow are therfore to give orders to the Commander in Cheif of our forces That the Said Regiment of Dragoons doe with all expedition march into England, wher as soon as they arryve; They are to enter into English pay. And wee designeing that their Complement be only six troops and Fiftie four privat men in each troop; yow are Therfore to give orders, For incorporating the two Supernumerary troops to the remaineing six; And what then wants of the above Complement are to be made up by new Levies; For which officers are to be left behind who are to goe about the Same As Soon as the regiment is in England. And it is our pleasure That the officers of the two Supernumerary troops who are to be incorporat into the other Six and who are to be named both Captains and Subalternes by the Viscount of Teviot Do continue in our Service, and make up their troops. with all dilligence to the number contained in the present Establishment And be a part of the said regiment. And yow are also to give orders that the said two Regiments of foot Conforme to their Complement upon the present Establishment (Excepting the two Companies in the Highlands who are to continue as formerly) Be in readiness to Imbarque as soon as the transport ships for carieing of them into Holland can be2 gott ready For which the necessary Orders Shall be given Immediatly. And they are to continue under the pay of that our kingdome Untill the day of their Imbarcation at which time they are to enter into English pay, And Since wee have thought fitt that the Saids two Regiments Should be Augmented to the number of Twelve Companies each regiment and of Sixty men each Company, yow are to take care that be left behind who with those to be named by Us for the additionall Companies Shall as Soon as the Said Regiments are Imbarqued and not before use all possible dilligence for makeing up the said Complement For which yow Shall give them all due encouragment And wee Shall take care that the officers both foot and Dragoons for makeing of those Levies be furnished from this with the necessary Levie money; And it being necessary for the Security of that our kingdome against the attempt of our enemies both at Home and abroad; That Regiments be Levied in place of those to be transported; Wee are firmly resolved as soon as these Regiments are removed to give Commissiones and orders for that effect, And that it may be the More effectually and Speedily done and without any expense to that our kingdome; Wee shall appoint Levie money to be Remitted from hence And expecting your care and dilligence in this Wee bid yow heartily fareweell. Given at our Court at Kensingtoune the thrid day of February 1702 And of our reigne the 13th year. By his Majesties Command Sic Subscribitur Seafeild.
