Act John Adam and others merchants in Glasgow for Pine etc Manufactury at Glasgow
Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill be John Adam John Bryson John Alexander and Hary Smiths merchants in Glasgow Shewing That wher the petitioners being English traders have with much paines brought home English workmen skilled to work all hard Wair, such as pines needles Cizers Sythes Tobacco boxes and English knives For which a great quantitie of money was yearly exported out of the kingdome, and that the petitioners are to Imploy them in the Manufactory of the forsaid particulars at the Town of Glasgow, And Seing that beside the many acts of parrliament2 made for the erecting and incouradging of Manufactores The saids Lords are Specially authorized by the act of parliament Jaj vic Eightie one To declare these Manufactories that should be sett up to be such to the effect they may enjoy the priviledges Liberties and Immunities granted to Manufactories by the saids acts of parliament And Therfore humbly Supplicating the saids Lords to the effect aftermentioned, The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Haveing Considered the above petition given in to them be the above John Adam John Brysone John Alexander and Henry Smiths merchants in Glasgow with ane instrument of intimation therof (That the saids Lords had delayed the passing of the same till the Manadgers of the Customes be acquainted therwith) Made to John Anderson of Dowhill one of the Manadgers of the Customes upon the Twentie Seventh day of December Jaj vic Nyntie Eight years The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill Doe hereby Declare the petitioners ther above work to be sett up at Glasgow for the makeing of Pines Needles Cizers Syths, Tobbacco boxes, English knyves and all sorts of hard wair in use to be Imported from abroad to be a Manufactory, And Ordaines the Same to have and enjoy the priviledges Liberties and Immunities granted to manufactories by the above act of parliament, and that for the space of Nyntein years after the day and date hereof.
