Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill be Robert Logan Cabinat maker Shewing That wher the petitioner hade found out ane invention of makeing Ketles Caldrons and all sorts of vessells never so Capacious of Wood and that of any kynd of wood in Such maner as will abide the Strongest fire and boyle any liquor put into it, for what Length of time the boyller pleases as weell as any vessells made of Brass Copper or any other Mettall, And that the said wooden vessells Shall Last with less detriment by the fire then either Brass or Copper and will endure much longer for use and service and also be Serviceable for boylling with a lesser quantitie of Coalls or fewall, and yet these wooden vessells may be purchased as the thrid of the pryce of either Brass or Copper vessells which is a most Singular and usefull invention, and may be farder usefull for all maner of Stells, distilling and for boylling of oyll and2 suggar So that it deserved the saids Lords Just encouradgment And Seing the petitioner was content to make prooff of this the petitioners invention before any whom the saids Lords should appoint to Observe the tryall; And Therfore humbly Supplicating to the effect aftermentioned The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petitione given in to them by the above William Logan with the Earle of Levens verball Report theranent, They hereby authorize the petitioner his inventione of makeing Ketles Calrdons and others mentioned in the said petition And Doe hereby Give and Grant to the petitioner the sole power and warrand of makeing useing or Licenceing the saids Ketles Cadrons and others and Discharges all other persons whatsomever within this kingdome either to make or practise the Like inventione without any express agreement made with the petitioner his heirs and assigneyes in wryting and that for the space of Two Nyntein years Commenceing from the day and date hereof, And that under the payne of Forfaulture of all such Ketles, Caldrons and other vessells made without order from the petitioner or his forsaids to the petitioner And his forsaids for their oun use and behoove And farder under the penaltie of Fyve hundred Merks Scots money to be payed by the Contraveener to the petitioner and his forsaids by and attour the forsaid Confiscation or forfalture.
