Att Edinburgh The Twenty Fifth day of July Jaj vic nynty and nyne years

Act For a Contribution To the Magistrats of Kinghorne

Anent The Petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy councill By the Magistrats and Town Councill of the Burgh of Kinghorn. Shewing That There having been a most Convenient harbour att the Kirk of Kinghorn, which was not only usefull for Shipping, But also most convenient For the passage Boats and passengers who hade occasion to pass att the ferry, But was many years agoe altogether Ruined By a most violent and Tempestous Storm, both to the great prejudice of the Burgh and to all the Leidges who hade occasion to pass that Ferry, It being nottourly Known, That the Harbour which is now made use of, for the passage, lyes att a considerable distance from the Town, And So is most un-Easy to all persones who have occasion to pass that way, And Their Petitioners being Resolved To Re-Build the said Harbour, For the conveniency of the Leidges: But Thorow the decay of Trade and The poverty of the place They are unable To perform so great a work, unless their Lordships assist them by granting their order and warrant For a voluntar contribution throw the Kingdom, to be paid to them, wherby they will be Enabled to perfect the said work. And Therefore Humbly Craving To the Effect underwrittin as the said petition Bears. The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill, Having considered this petition given in to them by the magistrats and Town Councill of the Burgh of Kinghorn They doe heirby allow to the petitioners a Generall Contribution For the Rebuilding of the above Harbour of Kinghorn, To be made att all the paroch-Churches within this Kingdom and that upon such Lords days as shall be Condescended on by the saids petitioners, And appointes the ministers To make Intimation of the said Collection upon the Lords day Immediately preceeding that in which the said collection is to be made, And appoints the Contribution when collected, To be delivered in and uplifted be William Smyton Late Bailie att Kinghorn Collector appointed by the saids Petitioners upon his First giving Bond and Finding Sufficient caution acted in the Books of his Majesties privy Councill, That he shall apply the said Contribution for Reparation of the said harboury of Kinghorne, And ordaines this to be printed with the particular Intimations to follow hereon.
