Letter from the King to the Councill Authorizeing them To Appoint persons To act as Sherifs Lords and Bailies of the severall Jurisdictions mentioned in the Letter
The Letter underwrittin from his Majestie To the Lords of his privy Councill, being Read was ordered to be Recorded, whereof the tenor follows
Sic supra scribitur William Rex
Right trusty and right welbeloved Cousin and Councellor, Right trusty and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councellor, Right trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councellors, Right trusty and welbeloved Councellors, and trusty and welbeloved Councellors. We greet yow well, Whereas we are Informed That Several haretable Sheriffs, Lords and Bailies of Regalities, have not qualified themselves, And Therfore cannot by Law constitute Deputs And it being necessary for our Service that persons of undoubted Loyalty and who are otherways well qualified be imployed to officiat in their Jurisdictions: We doe therfore heirby Require and authorize yow To nominate and Appoint persones whom yow Find so qualified and well afficted to our Government, To act as Sheriffs, Lords, or Bailies in the saids Jurisdictiones, And That yow permitt none named by those who are unqualified, to officiat. For doing wherof this shall be yowr warrant. And so we bid yow heartily farewell, Given at our court at Kensington, The 23d day of May 1699. And of our Reign the 11th year. By his Majesties Command. Sic subscribitur Seafield.
