Att Edinburgh The Sixth day of July Jaj vjc nynty nyne years

Liberation The Duke of Gordon

Anent The Petition given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill By George Duke of Gordon Shewing That Whereas their Lordships were pleased by ane ordinance of the Twenty second of June last To Recomend to his Majesties Advocate To prosecute him before their Lordships for certan Expressiones contained in a petition given in by him To their Lordships and uttered at the Councill Barr, And ordained him To Enter himself prisoner in the Castle of Edinburgh by Eight acklock That Evening, accordingly he obeyed their Lordships order and does still Remain in prison by vertue thereof, And hes also Receaved a full Double of a Complaint at the Instance of his Majesties Advocate Conform to their said ordinance, But Seing It was none of The Petitioners Intention To have given the Least disatisfaction or offence to their Lordships, Either by the petition or by what he said at the Councill Barr, And he is Sorry That he did not Express himself in Terms Respectfull Enough, or if he used any Expressiones which might seem to Lead further then he Intended, He did not design To call in question the force or validity or the Statutes which were urged or the Laws that were lybelled upon against him, he only Intended To procure a Stop To the depending process, he hopes it will find Excuse with their Lordships: Since it proceeded from him not being accustomed To Speak in publict, and since neither by his Petition nor Expressiones he Intended to give any ground of offence To the honourable Board. And Therfore Humbly Craveing To The Effect underwrittin as the said petition Bears. The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill Having considered this petition given in to them By the within Duke of Gordon, They heirby declare the within Complaint which The Lord Advocate was appointed to Raise against The petitioner To be let fall, And The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill, Doe heirby Recomend To the Earle of Leven Constable and Governour of the Castle of Edinburgh And in his Absence Gives order and warrant To the next commanding officer To sett the Duke of Gordon Petitioner at Liberty furth of the said Castle, for which this shall be a Sufficient warrant.
