Anent The Petition given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill By Henry Payne prisoner in Stirling Castle. Shewing That their petitioner though Born down with age poverty and 2 nyne3 years Imprisonment in this Kingdom is preparing ane Experiment For river navigation, whereby safter larger and swifter vessells may be made with farr less charge then any now in use, But as this Example hes been Ten tymes more cost and Trouble to their Petitioner Then otherways it might have been, So will it be Extreem difficult to gett it fully Compleated Except he may personally attend the work, This and his being no ways cautious conscius to him self of any ill demeanor that may Justly Incurr the displeasure of their Lordships Encourages him, Humbly to pray that their Lordships whilst they Resolve to detain their Petitioner in the Kingdom, wold in christian Compassion to his hard circumstances permitt him on his parroll, or moderate Baile, To have freedom within some Limited Confynement nore this place to go furth of the Castle, that he may duely attend his Bussines as the necessity of it Requires as the said petition Bears. The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill, haveing Considered this petition given in to them By the above Henry Payne, They doe heirby allow and permitt the petitioner To come Forth off the Castle of Sterling any tyme in the day tyme till the first day of October next to come Inclusive To attend his Bussiness and That under a Sufficient Guard, The said Henry Paine always Returning to the said Castle of Sterling Each day betwixt and […] att night and not going above the Bounds of halfe a myle from the said castle of Stirling, when he comes Furth thereof att Furdest.
