Att Edinburgh The Twenty fourth day of February Jaj vjc nyntie Eight years

Act In favours of James Steven Seaman

Anent The Petition Given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill by James Steven Seaman Shewing That ther Petitioner having the misfortune to be hyred as ane Seaman in the ship wherin Every went from England To Spain and was Compelled to Continue thereafter To serve in her, But hade no the Least accession to his piracies and is not soe much as named in the proclamatione wherin undoubtedly He would have Been If He hade been any ways Guilty or accessory to his Robberies, But in Regaird The proclamation does Bear in generall To apprehend any who was in Everies Company, and that therby He may be brought to Groundless trouble and may be diverted from going Going about his Employment as a Seaman which is Conceived was never the Intendment of ther Lordships proclamation which was only designed against those who were active and accessory to these piracies And The Petitioners Innocency if need were will be Sufficiently attested by Dr Falconar and others, who were in Company To whom their Lordships have given their protection. And Therfore Humbly craving To the Effect underwritten as the said petition Bears. The saids Lords of his Majesties privy Councill having Considered the above petition given in to them by James Steven Seaman They heirby Declare the petitioner To be free of the proclamation Emitted against Captain Every and his Crew, And discharges any person or persons any ways to Trouble or molest The petitioner by any summar Seazure And Declairs That he is free to goe about his affairs and Employment as a seaman he Behaving himself peaceably and dutifully as becometh any of his majesties Good subjects.
