Committee and warrand for Burning popish trinkets at Aberdeen
The Lord Advocate and Mr Francis Montgomry Two of the Committee appointed for Examining the prisoners anent the Popish meeting Seased at Aberdeen Having verbally Reported That they have Examined Alexander Gibb and George Gray taking upon account of the said popish meeting And That the said Alexander Gibb is a papist and does not make Distinct and clear answers to the Committee, And that the said George Gray merchant in Aberdeen is said to be a Sound protestant And declaires he Knew nothing of the Secret Communication Betwixt his house and the place where the said Meeting was Kept, And That it is the Committees Opinion That The said George Gray be set at Liberty. His Majesties High Commissioner and the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Having considered the said verball Report. They heirby Recommend to the Lords Ross and Carmichael Lord Advocate Lord Justice Clerk Mr Francis Montgomry and the Lord provost of Edinburgh being the Committee formerly appointed in this matter, To Revise the Register of Baptisms and the manuscripts seased at the said popish meeting in Aberdeen. And To make their Report to the Councill anent the said Register and manuscripts against their next meeting And declairs any three of the forsaid Committee to be a sufficient quorum And appoints the popish trinektts which came from Aberdeen and were seased at the said popish meeting to be sealed up and transported to the said Town of Aberdeen and delivered to the magistrates thereof, whom the saids Lords appoints to cause melt down the silver Chalice and Crucifix and all other silverwork if any be And to be sold to a Goldsmith, And Appoints the price which shall be gotten therfore to be delivered To the Kirk Thesaurer of the town of Aberdeen for the use of the poor of that burgh, And Appoints the other popish Trinkets to be carried to the mercat Cross of the said Burgh of Aberdeen, And The magistrats to see them burnt thereat by the hands of the common Executioner untill they be consumed to ashes And Recommends to the said Committee To give orders for the secure transporting them to the hands of the magistrats of Aberdeen.
