Letter from his Majestie Anent Colonell Hamiltones Regiment and other Forces

The Letter following direct from his Majestie To the Councill being Read was ordered to be Recorded whereof the tenor followes:
Sic suprascribitur William Rex
Right trusty and right welbeloved Cousin and Councellor. Right Trusty and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councellor. Right Trusty and Right welbeloved Cousins and Councellors. Right Trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councellors. Right Trusty and Right welbeloved Councellors. Right Trusty and welbeloved Councellors and Trusty and welbeloved Councellors. Wee Greet yow well. Whereas Wee are Resolved to keep up our Regiment of foot Commanded be Collonell George Hamilton And for that End to Reform our other forces upon the present Establishment. It is Therfore our will and pleasure And wee heirby authorize and Require yow as soon as this comes to your hands To give orders for disbanding five men and one Drummer of each Troop of our Two Regiments of Dragoons And of Two men of Each Company of our Regiment of foot Guards. And on Company of Each of the Three Regiments of foot Commanded by Major Generall Collyar, Brigadier Maitland, and Collonell Roll And of each of the Remaining Companys of the saids Three Regiments Fyve men on Corporal and ane Drummer yow are also To give orders for disbanding Two Companies of Collonell George Hamiltones Regiment And of each of the Remaining Companys one Corporal and on Drummer And for Reduceing each Company of the said Regiment To the number of Thirty five Centinells. Yow are to Take Care That the arms of those disbanded be secured To be Laid up in our Magazines. And as to the Method to be observed in the disbanding of the officers. It is our pleasure That the youngest officers of Each Regiment both Captains and Subalterns be pitched upon. And if any of these officers have by their Services merited a particular Consideration Ane Account therof may be transmitted to us By the Commander in cheif or their Collonell. For doing of all which this shall be your warrant So wee bid yow heartily farewell. Given at our Court at Loo The 21 day of October 1698 and of Reign the 10th year.
