Letter from the King for Disbanding the Lord Carmichaells Regiment
The Letter underwritten from his Majesty to the privy Councill Being Read was ordered to be Recorded whereof the Tenor Follows:
Sic suprascribitur William Rex
Right Trusty and Right welbeloved Cousin and Councellor, right trusty and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councellor, Right Trusty and Right welbeloved Cousins and Councellors, Right Trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councellors, Right Trusty and welbeloved Councellors and Trusty and welbeloved Councellors, wee greet yow well. Whereas Wee have ordered The Two Regiments of Dragoons Commanded by the Viscount of Teviot and Lord Jedburgh To march into Scotland, and which are to be upon our Establishment there, And Considering there is no Funds for maintaining more Regiments of Dragoons in that our Kingdom: It is therfore our will and pleasure That how soon any of the saids Regiments arrive in Scotland yow give orders for disbanding of that Regiment commanded by the Lord Carmichaell, And for secureing ther arms to be Laid up in our Magazines, And yow are to Recommend to the Lords of our Thesaury, To cause make payment to them of ther subsistence to the tyme of disbanding for doing whereof this shall be your warrant So wee bid yow heartily farewell. Given at our Court at Kensingtoun the 24th day of January 1697/8 and of our Reign the nynth year By his majesties Command sic subscribitur James Ogilvie.
