Att Edinburgh The seventh day of July Jaj vjc nynty Eight years

Order

Recommendation to the provost of Edinburgh anent opening of meat cellars and Girnels

The Lords of his majesties privy Councill Being Informed That since the present scarcity and dearth of victuall severall persons att Leith have caused close up their Cellars girnells and other places wherein the victuall Lyes to the great augmentation of the scarcity and Dearth And therby have manifestly contraveened The acts of parliament anent forestallers and Regraters And Therfore they heirby Recommend to Sir Archibald Muir of Thorntoune present provost of Edinburgh To take care that the saids Cellars, Girnells or other places within the priviledges of Edinburgh wherin victuall Lyes and are now closed up be opened again and the victual therein openly Exposed To sale and sold as the price goes in the Countrey not below the Last Candlemess fiers.
