Act and Recomendation In favors of Patton of Panholls
Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill Be William Patton of Panholls Shewing That wher the robers in the Highlands haveing in December Jaj vic Eightie Nyne fallen doune upon the petitioners Lands and most Cruellie and barbarously Committed severall depredationes therupon wherby a part therof Lay waist for severall years and the petitioners tennents redacted to poverty whom the petitioner was necessitate to Supply upon the petitioner his own charges to preserve them from Sterving, And the petitioner himself was therby brought under great Straits and difficulties; And haveing gone to London in the year Jaj vic Nyntie Six and petitioned his Sacred Majestie Who was graciously pleased to recommend the petitioner to the parliament; And also haveing petitioned his Grace his Majesties high Commissioner and Right honorable the Estates of parliament They appointed the petitioner to Liquidate the petitioner his damnadges before the Commissioners of Supplie for the Shyre of Pearth; and haveing extracted ane act and Commission and Conveened the saids Commissioners; They by their Report Found the petitioners damnadges to Extend to Six Thousand One hundred Twenty six pound beside ane article of Two Thousand pound acclaimed by the petitioner for executeing of a Commission be the late Lord Cardross to the petitioner for keeping the parochin of Blackfoord in maner fully mentioned in the said report And farder haveing given in this report with a petition to the last Session of Parliament The said Commissioner his Grace and Estates of parliament Remitted to the Committie of Elections to consider upon the said probation, and who by their report now in James Hamilton of Pencaitlands hands Found the said damnadges to extent to the said Soume of Six Thousand one hundred sixty two pound beside the said article in executeing the said Commission; And Since by the said depredation and Lying long out of reparation and by the great Charges the petitioner hade been at ther throw; The petitioner was now redacted to extreamity being thrust from his estate and Imployment haveing nothing to Subsist upon nor his Small family and that it might be Sometime before the parliament meett Wherby in all probability the petitioner would be exposed to a Starveing condition; And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords would be pleased to grant warrand to the petitioner for a volintar Contrabution throw the kingdome Or else to Recommend the petitioner to the Kings Majestie for ane present redress and in that caice to remitt the petitioner to the Lords of thesaurie for some Litle gratuity for carieing his charges to and from London as the petition bears; The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petition given in to them be William Patton of Panholls; They hereby Recommend the petitioner to the Lords Commissioners of his Majesties Thesaury; And Recommends to the saids Lords Commissioners To grant to the said petitioner a gift of the first vaccand Stipend which may be at their Lordships Disposall or which the said petitioner may first offer or Condescend upon to them or make discovery off.
