Contribution for building ane Bridge att Ananan
Anent the petition given in and presented to the Lords of His Majesties privie Councill be the Magistrats and toun Councill of Annane Humbly Shewing That where the River of Annan at the said Burgh is ordinarly so bigg and Especially in the Winter season That it is not passible there, Nor for severall miles above it is Foordable without great hazard and difficultie By which the greatest pairt of Trade for some shires about it is interrupted And many persons Lives and goods Indangered Their Mercats lost and severall people actwally perished To prevent which in May last The petitioners entered in ane Contract with Certain workmen for the building of ane Bridge at the said burgh over the said River being the most Commodious therfore within many miles therof seing it lyes in the most high and patent way from the shores of Dumfreis Galloway and Air to England And the said workmen have on their pairt made that progress That not only is the Landshoots sett But also the stones are woon the Lime laid too the Timber made ready for the Cumbs and every other thing readie for putting up the Arches But only the petitioners have so farr expended their stock and Impignorat2 their touns Comon good That they have no more Credit left them to fullfill their pairt of the Contract And the workmen are Threatning every minut to leave the work for want of their dayly wages By which all that the petitioners hath alrady expended will be intirely lost And so good and pious a work perish and be disappoynted unles the saids Lords and some other Charitable persons provyde some suteable remeid And therfore Craveing to the effect aftermentioned as the said petition bears The Lords of His Majesties privie Councill haveing considered the above petition given in to them by the Toun of Annan They heirby allow the Magistrats and toun Councill of Annan to make a voluntar Contribution and Collection at the kirkdoors of the whole paroches within this Kingdome To the effect underwrytten And that wpon the first sabbath day of August next besouth Tay and the fourt sabath therof benorth tay And appoynts the said Collection or Collections to be given in to Mr George Blair Toun Clerk of Annand who hes found sufficient Caution acted in the books of privie Councill before extracting heirof That he shall make faith full application of the saids Collections towards the payment of the above workmen for Building of the above Bridge at the said Burgh And Appoynts the Ministers of the severall paroch Churches to cause make Intimation of this act wpon the Lords Day Immediatly preceeding the day Appoynted for the saids Collections
