Act for a voluntar Contributione over thee Water of Leven
Annent The petitione given in to the Lords of his majeties most honourable privy Councill Be the Lord Burlech and commissionares of supplies uithin the shire of Kinross Sheweth That the Bridge on the water of Levin which runs from Loch Leven commonly called the Guilet Bridge lyeing Betuixt Bruntisland Kinghoren and all that highrod touards Perth is so far Ruinous and out of repair that its hardly passable uithout great danger in so much taht of Late severall persones have lost their Lives there particularly the only Daughter of Mr William Mackie Minister at Portmog so then the repaireing and intendeing therof is ane usefull and necessary work to all the Kingdome in Generall and particularly to these who travell to the northern shires of this Kingdome and after the samein hes been Inspected by persones of Judgment and skill, The Computatione of the Necessar Expence for mending therof is Estimate to above Two Thousand merks for Defrayeing pairt of which charge the patrone and Herretors of the paroch or Portmog have Charitably and generously allowed above six Hundered merks And yet the Work can Neither be finished nor that small Expence profitably bestowed unles some other suply and Releiff be afoarded for at Least Makeing up the soum of Sixteen or Eighteen Hundered Marks beside the moyety allowed out of the forsaid vaccant stippend and which cannot reasonably be Expected any other way then by a voluntar Contirbutione over the whole Kingdome to which its Hoped severall charitable and Generous Disposed persons Will Contribute Liberally if Their2 Lordships authority be Interposed for obtaineing the Same And Therefore Humbly Craveing that it might please the saids Lords to grant a voluntary Contributione over the whole Kingdome to be Gathered at the Severall church doors, of the severall churches therof for Building and repaireing the said Guilt Bridge abovementioned, And the colections to be made upon such dayes as The3 petitioners shall condescent wpon, With the order and Warrand to the severall ministers to make Intimation therof from their pulpits after forenoon sermon, the sabath before the said colectione is to be made ~~in~~ to such persons as The4 petitioners shall Appoynt, att the sevearll churches and the money that shall be Collected to be payed in5 wpon ther finding cautione to Apply the same for the ends and uses forsaid, and where any churches are vaccant that the said colectione be made either thgouth the paroch by the Deacons and elders or at the Church Doors when the samen shall be supplyed by the presbytery as the said petition Bears The Lords of his Majesties privie Councill haveing considered this petition given in to them by the uithin Lord Burleigh and others they heireby Grant a voluntar Contribution over the haill Kingdome to be gathered at the severall church doors of the severall churches thereof for building and Repaireing the within mentioned Guilet Bridge and appoynts the saids Colections to be made wpon the dayes aftermentioned viz in the toun of Edinburgh up on the third sabath day of Jully next to come, And in the three Lothians Fife and Pearth upon the second sabbath of September6 Next to come and over the rest of the Kingdome upon the second sabath of may next to come And Appoynts the severall ministers to make Intimatione therof from their pulpits after forenoons sermone the sabbath before the said collectione is to be made at the severall churches And appoynts the money that shall be colelcted to be payed in to George Birrell portioner of Kinazwood And Appoynts the said Robert Birrell to give Bond and find sufficient Cautione acted in the Books of his Majesties privie Councill to apply the saids colections for the ends and uses forsaids And where any churches are vaccant The saids Lords appoynts the said collectione be made either through the paroch by the elders and Deacons or at the church doors when the same shall be supplied by the presbetry
