Letter from The King to the Councill anent the Earl of Melforts letter to the Earl of Perth

The Following Letter from the Kings Majesty To the Lord high Commissioner, Chancellor and Rest of the Lords of His Majesties privy Councill Being Read was ordered to be Recorded, quhereof the tenor Follows.

Right Trusty and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councellor, Right Trusty and Right welbeloved Cousin and Councellor, Right trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councellors, Right Trusty and welbeloved Councellors and Trusty and welbeloved Councellors, Wee Greet yow Well. Wee have ordered to be transmitted to yow a Coppy of a Letter from the Earle of Melfort to his Brother the Earle of Perth, The originall whereof is here, by which yow will See how indefatigable our Enemies are in their Endeavours against Our Government and how Ready they are to take the advantage of the present posture of affairs, To disturb the Quiet and peace of our Kingdoms, and though Wee doubt not of your Zeall for our Service off which wee have hade Sufficient prooff, yet Wee thought fitt to lay this before yow, To Engadge yow to a particular care and watchfulness on this occasion and to a diligent Application to find out and prevent the designs of our Enemies, For which End Wee think it may be necessary, yow should attend Closely at Edinburgh for some tyme, And So Wee bid yow heartily farewell. Given at our Court at Kensington the Nynteenth day of February 1701 and of our Reign the 12th year. By his Majesties Command Robert Pringle.
