Act Margaret Durham for a Colectione
Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill be Margrat Durhame Spouse to James Wilsone now prisoner with the Turks Shewing That wher the said James Wilsone being taken by the Turks in January Jaj vjc nyntie four wher he has Lyen prisoner since in Argeir in great missery and slavery as his letter sheweth quherin he Declairs that his condition is worse then he dare wryte and that he would be releived for ane ransome of Two hundreth and fiftie rix doller, and earnestly desires the petitioner to make her Condition and his knowen to all good Christians in treating them for the Lords sake to have pity and extend ther Charity, as his said letter with some other letters and testificats to prove the trewth of his Conditione therwith produced would testifie And Therfore Craveing the saids Lords to take the said James Wilsone prisoner forsaid his misserable and deplorable Conditione and likewayes the afflicted Condition of the said Margrat Durehame who is ane poor sickly object of Charity with ane young Child to ther serious Consideratione and Grant warrand to the petitioners for Collecting of ane voluntar Contributione wher or in what place of the kingdome the saids Lords should think fitt to appoint upon their finding Cautione as use is in the like casses as the petitione bears The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill having Considered this petition given in to them be the above Margrat Durhame with the letter and Certificat produced therwith They hereby allow ane voluntar Collectione to be made at the paroch Churches and meeting housses within the shirefdomes of Fyfe and Angus and tounes within the same for redeeming or Ransomeing the petitioners husband from his slavery with the Turks In Respect the petitioner has given bond and found suficient Cautione acted in the books of privy Councill That he shall Imploy the money which shall be So Collected upon the redeeming and ransomeing of her said husband from his slavery with the Turks, And that she shall hold Compt and make payment to the saids Lords of privy Councill or any others they shall appoint for what shall not be Imployed that way, and appoints intimation heirof to be made in every paroch Church and meeting house within the bounds forsaids upon the sabbath day Immediatly preceiding the day of the said Collectione.
