Act Lord William Douglass for the Stipend of Maner
Anent a petition given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill be Lord William Douglass Shewing That wher the petitioner being undoubted patron of the Church and paroch of Maner, and which has been vaccant these severall years bygone; And the petitioner being resolved to apply the vaccand Stipend therof for building ane Bridg over the watter of Maner at the foot therof, Wher formerly ther was one built and is now fallen, and Which watter is oft times so great that it cannot be past, And Which is not only upon the Comon marcat road for a great part of that parish, And the greatest part of the Shire of Peebles, But likewayes the petent road to and from England for the greatest part of the western Shires of this kingdome, and the building wherof is a most necessar pious use, And it is also necessar That the saids Lords approve of the forsaid application So as the work may be presently gone about And Therfore humbly Supplicating the saids Lords to the effect aftermentioned As the petition bears The Lords of his majesties privy Councill haveing Considered the above petition given in to them be the above Lord William Douglass They hereby approve of the petitioners Resolution to apply the vaccand Stipend of the Kirk of Maner for building a bridge over the Watter of Maner at the place mentioned in the petition, And Nominats and Appoints Alexander Horssburgh younger of that ilk to whom the petitioner has given a factory To be factor for uplifting and Imploying of the vaccand Stipend of the said kirk for the years bygone And Decernes and Ordaines the heritors lifrenters titullars Tacksmen Tennants and others Lyable in payment of the said vaccant stipend To make payment of the same to the said factor for the years bygone He allwayes produceing a Decreet of Locallity And incaice ther be non ordaines the heritors and other forsaids Lyable in payment of the said Stipend To make payment of their respective proportiones therof According as they shall be Decerned by the Judge ordinary In Respect the said factor has Granted bond and found suficient Cautione acted in the books of privy Councill That he shall doe Dilligence for recovering of the said Stipend, And being recovered shall Imploy the same for building of the forsaid bridge at the place mentioned in the petition, And ordaines letters of horning on fiftein dayes to be direct at the said factors instance to the effect forsaid.
