Proclamatione for a Solemn Thanksgiveing
The proclamatione following for a solemne thanksgiveing upon takeing the Toune and Castle of Namure being read in Councill was approven and signed The dayes of the thanksgiving being Left blank to be filled up by the Lord Chancellors ordors in whose hands the proclamatione was Left for that effect and was filled up accordingly The Same was ordered to be recorded in the Councill books whereof the tenor followeth a proclamatione for a Solemne nationall thanksgiving William by the grace of God King of great Brittain France and Ireland defender of the Faith To our Lovits […] macers of our privy Councill messingers at armes our Shirriffs in that part conjunctlly and severally specially Constitut greeting Forasmuch as it Hath pleased the Almighty God gratiously to prosper our Armies in the beseigeing and takeing of the Toune and Castle of Namuir and to preserve our persons to the manifold Dangers to which we were thereby exposed for which signall mercy and the other successes and advantadges that we and our armies had been blessed with dureing the Campayne as we and all our good subjects are bound to render thanks to God so we Confess noe less our duety from so happy and propitious beginnings To implore the goodness of the same Almighty God To continow his gratious Countenance and assistance with us and such a happy conclusione to this Campaygne as may procure peace to Christendome and security of the true protestant Religione Therfore we have thought fitt with advyse of the Lords of our privy Councill to appoynt Lykeas we hereby appoynt a day of solemn thanksgiving and prayer to be observed within this Kingdome upon the dayes following viz in the toune of Edinburgh and shyre thereof on the fyfteen day of september instant and in the paroches and Churches of this syde of Tay, on the tuenty second day of the said moneth and in the whole remanent Paroch’s and Churches of this Kingdome upon the tuenty nynth day of the same moneth Which day of thanksgiving and Prayers for the Causes foresaid We hereby peremptorly injoyne to be observed with all Religious Exercises suitable to such ane occasione and by all ministers and others therein concerned as they will be answerable under their Highest perill our will is Herefore and we Charge you That incontinent thir our Letters seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and the marcat Crosses of the remanent head burghs of the severall shyres within this Kingdome And there in our name and Authority make publicatione hereof that none pretend ignorance And ordains our Sollicitor to cause send printed Coppies hereof to the Shirrifs of the severall shyres and their Clerks whom we ordaine to see the same published and appoynts them to send doubles thereof to the ministers within their bounds and upon the Lords day immediatly preceeding the said day above appoynted the same may be publickly intimatt and read And ordaines these presents to be printed Given under our Signet at Edinburgh the third day of September and of our Reigne the seventh year Jaj vjc nynty and fyve years sic subscribitur sic subscribitur2 Tweddale Cancell W Anstruther Robert Sinclair G Campbell Robert Cheisly
