Letter from the King anent Recruits
Another letter from his Majestie to the Councill being read was ordered to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth sic suprascribitur William Rex Right trusty and Right welbeloved Cousin and Councellor Right trusty and intirely beloved Cousin and Councillor Right trusty and right welbeloved Cousins and Councellors Right trusty and welbeloved Councillors and trusty and welbeloved Councillors we greet you well Whereas by our letters of the tuentie eight of November and the tenth day of December last we ordered a draught to be be2 made for our service in Flanders in the maner therin mentioned. we doe now find it necessary to double the said draught It is therfore our will and pleasure That besyds the first draught which we suppose is now made you give instantly ordors for the makeing a second draught of the same numbers of men by the same proportiones and out of the same Regiments with the first draught, as that is ordered in our said Letter of the 28th of November That is of one Hundred and fiftie men out of Hills Regiment and of one Hundred and thretteen out of each of the other four Regiments of foot The Flanders officers paying to the officers of the said Regiments thirty shilling sterling for each man as was done in the former draught and which men are to be delyvered and divyded amongst the Flanders officers by the directione of Collonell Fergusone according to the proportions observed in the delyverie of the first sex Hundred And whereas by a Letter of the tuentie third of Januar last wryten to you by our ordor we appoynted such desertors from our Regiments in Flanders since there being there and who have engadged in any of our Regiments of foot with you to be restored to our Flanders officers we doe still for discourageing of desertione ordor them to be delyvered to the said officers but to be delyvered as a part of the draught, The said officers payeing thirty shilling for each of them as they are to doe for others But least these desertors should apprehend punishment in Flanders we doe hereby pardon and indemnify them for ther desertion and doe requyre you To publish this our indemnity in the usuall maner if you find it necessarie we recommend this whole matter to your particular Care and that noe dilligence nor dispatch may be omitted to the end that both draughts may be shipt together as soon as can be and so we bid you heartily farewell Given at our Court at Kensingtoune the 7th day of Februarie 1695 and of our Reigne the sexth year By his majesties Command sic subscribitur J Johnstoune
