Liberatione John Dick
Anent the petitione given in to the Lords of ther majesties privie Councell be John Dick deacon conveener of Jedburgh Shewing that wheras the petitioner being fyned by ther Lordships in the soume of five hundereth merks for the thrusting of Thomas Porteous proveist of Jedburgh in the breast and he being ordained to goe to prisone untill he payed the fyne he did imediatly pay the fyne but being ordained to goe to prisone untill he payed at the measure thought himself obleidged Likewayes to putt the petitioner in prison And seeing the fyne is payed as appears by the recept prodwced with the said petitione And that the petitioner being imployed in the Kings Service as Subtackman of the excyse of twelve parochins of Tiviotdaill and that it will be a great prejudice and Loss as to the collecting and ingathering of that excyse if the petitioner be detained any Longer in prisone As also that the petitioner is a verie valitudinarie man and if he were continweing in prison any Longer it would exceedinglie prejudge his health And Therfor humbly Supplicating the saids Lords of the effect efter mentioned The Lords of his majesties privie Counsell haveing considered this petitione given in to them be the above John Dick with the discharge mentioned therin and produced therwith They heirby give order and warrand to the magistrats of Edinburgh and keeper of ther tollbuith to sett the petitioner at Libertie furth therof for which this shall be to all persones concerned a sufficient warrand And appoints the clerks of Counsell to deliver up to the said petitioner the bond formerly granted be him for payment to the said Thomas Porteous of the forsaid fyne dated the twentie one day of November Last by past.
