Letter from the King repryveing Vallance of Poschills

The Letter after insert being read was ordered to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth sic suprascribitur William Rex Right trusty and right well beloved Cousin and Councillor Right trusty and intirely beloved Cousin and Councillor, Right trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councillors and trusty and welbeloved Councillors we greet you well Whereas James Vallance of Possells haveing about fyfteen years agoe killed William McFarlane of Kirktoune There was during the late Reigne a Precognition taken of that matter upon which the said killing appeared to be only the effect of a Rancounter or at least accompanied with such circumstances as make it noe murther, since the issue of the procognition was that the then privie Councill recomended him to the late King James for a remissione upon which he obtained a reprive for many years and by vertue of that reprive hath ever since lived as a free man and Hath as a loyall subject served us in our army in Scotland and in all our wars in Ireland till the intire reductione of that Kingdome It is therfore our will and pleasure To grant a new repryve to the said James Vallance of Possells for seven years from the date of these presents And we doe requyre you to ordor the said James Vallance to be set at Liberty and that He hath every maner of way the same freedome protectione and Countenance that he had dureing dureing the former repryve so we bid you heartily farewell Given at our Court at Kensingtoune the tuentie eight day of Februarie 1694/5 and of our Reigne the sexth year By his Majesties command sic subscribitur J Johnstoune
