Letter to the King anent Earl of Seaforth

The Letter afterinsert being read in presence of the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill was approven and the Councill recomended to the Lord high Chancellour to signe the Same in their name and transmitt it to the Kings majestie with the Earles petitione offered to the Councill and ordors the Letter to be recorded quherof the tenor follows May it please your Majesty The Earle of Seaforth haveing rendered himself prisoner to Generall Major Mcky was at first keept in the Castle of Edinburgh and therafter put under baile untill by your majesties ordor he was againe Committed and afterwards processed for treasone to which also a stop was given by your majesties speciall command He hath often addressed to us by earnest petitions but all that we could doe in his Case and circumstances is to lay before your Majestie the Last of these petitions and humbly to recomend him to your favour as being the only persone that is still keept prisoner, The rest being either released or put under baile And what your majestie shall command concerneing him shall be carefully observed by us signed in name and at Command of the privy Councill by May it please your Majesty Your Majesties most faithfull most hum and most obedient subject and servant sic subscribitur Twerdale Cancel. dated Edinburgh nynth day of August Jaj vjc nynty and fyve years
