Proclamation

Proclamatione for the exercise of the Government in his Majesties name only

The following proclamatione being also prepared was read approven and signed and ordered to be instantlie promulgate followes the proclamatione a proclamatione for the exercise of the Goverment in his majesties name only William by the grace of God King of great Brittain France and Ireland Defender of the faith To our Lyon King at arms his brethren heraulds macers of our privy Councill Pursevants or Messingers at armes our shirriffs in that part conjunctly and severallie speciallie constitute greeting Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God To remove by death our dear Consort Queen Mary so that the sole and full right of the Croune and 2 Royalle dignity of this our ancient Kingdome as weill as the exercise of the said Royall power is now in our sole persone and to be exercised by us for hereafter in our name only Therfore We with advyce of the Lords of our privy Councill have thought fitt to intimat and declare That for hereafter the foresaid Royall power is to be exercised in our name only and that all Letters Gifts patents and other wryts whatsomever which heretofore were in use to pass in the name of us and the said Queen Mary are for Hereafter to be directed and to pass in our name only and further that the oath of alleadgeance is hereafter to be sworne and the same, and the assurance subscribed by all concerned to swear and subscrybe the same to us and in our name only sicklyke and in the same maner as they were in use before to be subscribed and sworn to us and the said Queen Mary joyntlie Our will is Herefore and we charge you strictly and Command That incontinent thir our letters seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and remanent marcat Crosses of the whole head burghs of the respective shyres and stueartries within this Kingdome And there in our name and Authoritie by open proclamatione make publicatione hereof. To the effect all our leedges may regulate themselves accordinglie and ordaines these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the second day of Januarie and of our Reigne the sexth year 1695 sic subscribitur3
