Proclamation

Proclamatione dischargeing the importatione of forraigne victuall

The following proclamatione was read voted approven and signed and ordered to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth Proclamatione dischargeing the importatione of forraigne victuall William by the Grace of God King of great Brittain France and Ireland defender of the Faith To and Macers of our privy Councill messengers at armes conjunctlly and severally specially constitut greeting Forasmuch as the importing and bringing from forraigne Countreis any wheat bear barlay oats meall malt beans pease or rye into this Kingdome is highly prejudiciall to the native product thereof and to the trade upon the grouth of the same and givs occasion to the unwarrantable exporting of much money furth of this Realme for preventing whereof and obviateing the Conveniencies that follow thereupon We with advyse of the Lords of our privy Councill doe hereby strictly prohibite and discharge all persons whatsomever to to2 import or bring by sea or Land into this Kingdome or any of the Ports Harbours tounes and places therof any sort or quantity of the victuall abovementioned excepting whyt pease allenarly without licence had from our said Lords for that effect under the paine of Confiscatione of the said victuall, The one half therof to the persone or persons who shall make discoverie of, and seize upon the same, and the other Half thereof, with the ships barks or boats wherein the same shall be imported to our Thesaurie for our use and other punishments to be inflicted upon them conforme to the acts of parliament made thereanent And ordaines all our Collectors Surveyors and waiters within this Kingdom at the respective ports Harbours and places where they serve to see this act punctually observed as they will be answerable to their Highest perill; With certificatione to such as shall be found negligent therein They shall incurre the Loss of their respective offices Our will is Herefore and we charge you strictly and Command That incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and whole other marcat Crosses of the Royall Burghs and sea ports within this Kingdome and therat make intimatione of our pleasure in the premisses to the effect none may pretend ignorance and ordains these presents to be printed Given under our Signet at Edinburgh the twenty day of November and of our Reigne the seventh year Jaj vjc nynty and fyve years sic subscribitur Tweddale Cancell Southerland Forfar Yester James Stueart Adam Cockburne F Montgomerie T Burnet W Anstruther
