Anent the petitione given in to the Lords of their Majesties privie Councell By poor William Davidsone sometymes wryter in Edinburgh sheuing That wher the supplicant Having in Winter Jaj vic nyntie tuo Ignorantly and unadvertantly through nonage added a postscript to a neues Letter Bearing that some foolish thing offensive to the Government uas reported uithout affirming whither it was true or false but only that It uas soe reported He was therupon by ordor of the Lord Chancelor Incarcerat within the tolbooth of Edinburgh and ane Act passed for banishing and transporting of him therfore which upon his applicatione their Lordships were graciously pleased to recall And by another Act remitted him to the magistrats of Edinburgh To be by them banished the toune and Liberties therof In caise they found him guiltie wherupon (no other probation being Led against him save his oune Ingenious Confession) He uas necessitat to Inact himself in the toune Councells books to Leave the said toune and Liberties therof which also he did in obedience therunto And have been necessitat ever since to Live upon the charity of his relations and acquantances who being now weary to mantaine him any Longer And his father who deceast during his Imprisonment Having out of his zeall for the government disinherited him (for so offending against the same) of any thing he might have expected from him wherby the poor supplicant is redacted to extreem misirie Having also accidentallie broken his thigh bone six severall tymes and therby become Incapable to follow any other Imployment for his subsistance except to sitt in a Chamber and wryte And which he can have noe occasion to doe as Long as the said Act of banishment Continoues unrecalled And seing he is most uilling to qualifie himself by Law and to take the oath of alleadgance and subscryve the assurance to Evidence his sincerity touards the Government and that he offended against the samen only through Ignorance unadvertency and noneage as said is And Therfore Humblie Craving to the effect underwryten as the said petitione Bears The Saids Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Having Considered the above petition They heirby take off the sentence of Banishment pronunced by the Magistrats of Edinburgh against the petitioner And Grants free Libertie to him to returne to the toune of Edinburgh and suburbs therof notwithstanding of the same and of the Inactment Given by him follouing theron And appointes the Inactment to be delyvered up to the petitioner In respect before extracting heirof The petitioner hath suorne and signed the oath of alleadgance and signed the Assurance to their Majesties appointed by act of parliament
