Act Mr John Watsone for the stipend of Whitinghame
Anent a Petition given in to the Lords of ther Majesties privy Councill be Mr John Watsone minister at Whitinghame Shewing That quher ther being ane great necessitie for building ane stone bridge over the watter of Whitinghame through the want of which severall persones have perished and lost ther lifes in Crossing the said watter (any bridges of timber that have been laid over being allwayes Carried away with every speat) and ther being half ane year vaccand stipend of the said parish of Whitinghame before the petitioners entrie viz the last half years stipend Jaj vjc and nyntie thrie which the Viscount of Kingstoune patron of the said paroch has freely bestowed on the petitioner becaus of the paines the petitioner was at in preaching frequently to them befor the petitioners admissione nevertheless the petitioner is weell satisfied that the forsaid half years vaccand stipend be raither Imployed for so Charitable and so necessar a work as the building of the said bridge And Therfore humbly Craveing the saids Lords to interpone their authoritie to his uplifting the forsaid half years vaccand stipend to be Imployed towards the beuilding the said stonbridge as the petition bears The Lords of their majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petitione given in to them be the above Mr John Watsone with the patrons gift produced therwith They heirby allow the petitioner the stipend of the above kirk of Whitinghame for the last half of the cropt and year of God Jaj vjc nyntie thrie, And Ordaines him to be readily answered obeyed and payed therof be the heritors fewers wodsetters Lyfrentars titulars tacksmen of teynds tennents possessors and others Lyable in payment of the same And Ordaines letters of horning under the signet of the Councill to be direct at the petitioners instance against them for that effect upon productione of a decreet of Locality and in caice ther be no decreet of Localitie Ordaines these Lyable to make payment of their respective proportiones of the said half years stipend according as the same shall be determined by the Judge ordinary The petitioner allwayes before extracting heirof giving bond and finding suficient Cautione acted in the books of privy Councill that he shall build ane stone bridge over the watter of Whitinghame out of the first end of the said half years stipend so farr as the same will extend for that effect.
