Letter from the King to the Councill for raising tuo Regiments of foot and one of Dragoones red and ordored to be recorded wherof the tenor folloues
Sic suprascribitur William Rex
Right trustie and right well Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and Entirely beloved Cousins and Councelors Right trustie and well beloved Cousins and Councelors Right trustie and uell Beloved Councelors And trustie and uel beloved Councelors We greet you uell Wheras we have thought Fitt for the good of our service in that our ancient Kingdome to raise tuo other Regiments of Foot and one of Dragoons The Later Commanded by the Lord Carmichaell and the tuo former by the Lords Murray and Lindsay To whom we have given Commissions accordingly And we doubt not but yow will give all countenance and concurrence to the saids Collonells for the speedy Levying of their saids Regiments And wheras severall good Laues for the security of our Government and safety of our poeple were made and Enacted in our Last session of Parliament particularly the sixth and Eight Acts therof wherby It uas declared that such persons as should not take the oaths therin prescribed might not keep horses above one hundreth merks pryce nor other arms then a walking suord under the penalties therin-contained nor that none of our subjects of that our Kingdome without our Levie or of our privy Councill ther should goe to France or any of the French Kings dominions after the first day of June then nixt to come or Being ther should stay after the first day of Agust under the paine of Treasone And that none of our saids subjects without authority forsaid should keep Inteligence or have Correspondence by Letters with any person residing In France or dominions forsaids after the date of the said Act under the paine of Being punished as Corresponders uith declared Traitors It is therfore our will and pleasure and we doe heirby authorize and requyre yow To putt the saids Acts effectually in execution and take such farther methods for disarming such persons and seazing of their horses above the forsaid value as yow shall judge necessar And Lykewayes to proceed against all such persons as have aither gone to France or any of the French dominions after the said first day of June or being their have stayed or abode ther after the said first of Agust or Corresponded in manner forsaid After the date of the said Act For all which this shall be your warrant so we Bidd yow heartily fareuell Given at our Court at Kensingtoune the 28 day of February 1694 And of our reign the 5th year By his majesties Comand J Johnstoun
