Proclamatione for a Solemn thanksgiving

The following proclamatione was read aproven and signed and appoyted to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth A Proclamatione appoynting a nationall thankgiveing William and Mary by the Grace of God King and Queen of great Brittaine France and Ireland defenders of faithe To […] Macers of our Privy Councill messengers at armes our shiriffs in that part conjunctlly and severally specially constitut greeting. Forasmuch as great and publict blessings conferred upon us and our people by the Almighty God of his infinit goodness Doe justly call for publick acknowledgement and solemne thanksgiving so it is our duety and the duety of all our good subjects at this tyme by a day solemnlie set apairt to returne praise and Glorie to his Blessed name who in answere to the Fervent prayers humbly and devoutly offered up and power’d furth before Him at the solemn nationale fast observed and keept through this our ancient Kingdome dureing our last campaigne in Flanders; hath been pleased to preserve our persone from the many and great dangers in the warr in our late expeditione there and to bring back our Royall persone to our Kingdomes and at home to protect and defend the protestant religione and our Government against the designs and attempts of their open and secret enemies And for which also The ministers mett together at Edinburgh in the Commissione of the Generall assemblie of the Kirk of this our ancient Kingdome Have made address to the Lords of our privy Councill That a solemne day of publict thanksgiving may be set apairt be religiously observed throughout this our ancient Kingdome Therfore We with advyce of the Lords of our privy Councill Do appoynt and Command That the tuentie two day of November currant for the toune and shyre of Edinburgh and the sexth day of December next to come for all the rest of this our ancient Kingdome be religiouslie and devoutlie observe as a solemn day of publick thanksgiving by all persones within this Kingdome both in Churches and meeting houses for returning most hearty and humble thanks and acknowledgment to the divine goodness for his signall blessings and delyverances already bestowed upon us and our people and to implore the continuance thereof in the mercy of our God and that a spirit of Councill and wisdome may assist us in our undertakings and Consultationes at Home and abroad in tyme comeing and to the effect our pleasure in the premisses may be Knowen Our will is, and we charge you strictly and command That incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the marcat cross of Edinburgh and remanent marcat crosses of the whole head burghs of the severall shyres within this Kingdome and of the Stueartries of Kircudbright Annandale and Orknay and there in our name and authority make publicatione whereof That none may pretend ignorance and Ordains our solicitor to cause send printed Coppies Hereof to the shiriffs of the severall shyres within this Kingdome and steuarts of the stueartries foresaid whome we ordaine to see the same published and appoynts them to send doubles Hereof to all the ministers both in Churches and meeting houses within their respective Jurisdictiones That upon the Lords day immediatly preceeding the said tuenty two day of November instant and sexth of December next the same may be intimat and read in every parish Church and meeting house Certifying all2 such who shall contemne or neglect so religious and important a duety as the thanksgiving hereby appoynted is they shall be proceeded against and punished as contemners of Aur authority and as highly disaffected to our persones and Goverment and ordains these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the fyfteen day of November and of our reigne the sexth year Jaj vjc Nynty four years sic subscribitur Tweeddale cancel Southerland Morton Cassills Lothian Leven Annandale Forfar Breadalbane Tarbatt Yester Adam Cockburne
