Liberatione Benjamine Midletoune
The Lord Advocat Having acquanted the Lords of their Majesties privie Councell That one Benjamine Midletoun ane English man was seized and made prisoner By Major Buntyne Governour of Dumbarton castle and sent to this place upon suspicion being a strainger anent the deep of the water of Clyde and uesterne waters and seas And that the said Mr Midletoune uas ready attending the Councell They appointed a Committie of their oune number to examine him who reported That they Could find noe Grounds for detaining him prisoner nor himself gulty of any Cryme But that by his wryts and papers they found him a Travellor and a Curious man The saids Lords approves of what Major Buntyne hes done But appointes the said Midletoune to be at Libertie and his papers to be restored to him which was Instantly done And Recomends to the said Lord Advocat to Grant a recept of the prisoner to the guaird who brought him from Dumbarton
