Act The Countess of Seaforth
Anent the petitione Given in to the Lords of their majesties privie Councell By Frances Lady Seaforth Sheuing That their Lordships being favourablie pleased tuo years agoe or therby To allow the petitioner to stay uith her husband in the Castle of Edinburgh wher he is prisoner And to allow them Servants to attend them as other prisoners of quality in the Lyke Circumstance And the petitioner Having Caused furnish the family uith Drink sometymes from the sutlary and sometymes by bringing in drink of her oune yet Sir William Hope Leivtenant Governour of the Castle of Edinburgh upon what pretence or warrand The petitioner knoues not Hes Lately stopped and discharged the bringing in any drink for their family wherby The petitioner Judges herself heavily prejudged And seing It was never refuised to persons of quality who are prisoners in such Circumstances to furnish themselves after what manner they thought fitt uith drink and other necessaries And therfore it is Humblie expected that their Lordships will not allow the petitioner and family to be singularly used Especiallie seing the same is done out of peik and prejudice by the said Sir William Hope And therfore Humblie Craving to the effect underwryten as the said petitione bears The Saids Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Having Considered this petitione given in to them by the said Countess of Seaforth and ansuers made therto by Sir William Hope And both parties and their advocats Being Called The said Countes Compearing personallie uith Mr John Kincaid her advocat And the said Sir William Hope Compearing also personallie uith Sir James Steuart, their majesties Advocat, and Sir James Ogilvie their majesties sollicitor his advocats Both parties advocats being heard att the barr They heirby ordaine the said Sir William Hope Leivtenant Governour to Give free access and Entery for drink and other necessars to be brought in to the Earle of Seaforths family in tyme coming
