Letter to the King anent Balhousies accounts

The following letter being read was approven and signed by the preses in name of the Councill and appoynted to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth May it please your sacred Majestie Thomas Hay of Balhousie suffered great loss in his Corns by the English Regiments of the Lord Colchester Sir John Lenier and others in the years Jaj vjc eighty and nyne and Jaj vjc and nynty years which losses haveing been tryed and examined according to the orders then emitted were found to extend to seven Hundred and fiftie fyve pound sterling and this sum to be truely due to Balhousie and payable out of the Revenues in Scotland But because it was then your majesties pleasure for repayment of your scots Thesaurie That all such losses and arrears should be a proper charge upon the english forces, we in a proclamatione put furth in July last for bringing in the accompts resting by the forces to the Countrey Did declare That the debts of the forces upon the english establishment should transmitted to your Majestie That your majestie in your royall wisdome may ordor such Course to be taken for satisfieing the same as should be thought just, whereupon the said Thomas Hay of Balhousie haveing duelie stated his accompts his said loss appears and applying to us for a recommendatione to your majestie we have thought fitt in all humility to lay his Case before your majestie That you in your royalle Justice may ordor such Course to be taken for satisfieing of the foresaid debt due to him by the forces on the English establisment as your majestie shall think just, and this recommendatione is signed by Command and in name of your majesties privy Councill by your majesties most humble most obedient and faithfull subject and servant sic subscribitur Annandale p: Edinburgh tuentie December 1694
