Anent the petition given in to the Lords of their Majesties privie Councell By Androw Broun, Clockmaker burges of Edinburgh sheuing That the petitioner Having Granted bond as Cautioner For Captain Vallentyne Broune That he should present himself to their Lordships when called for under the penaltie of one Thousand pounds scotts And the petitioner being Charged by their Lordships order for payment of the forsaid fyne He hath accordingly made payment of tuelve hundreth merks therof And as to the other three hundreth merks The petitioner Humblie represents That when the forsaid Vallentyne Broune made his escape from Edinburgh The petitioner gott nottice He uas Lurking about Tiviotdale And being resolved to present him to the government procured a warrand from Sir Thomas Livingstoun for apprehending of him And the petitioner uith other three horsemen all upon the petitioners expence Did travell up and doune the Countrey for severall dayes and searched for the said Vallentyne Broune in severall places wher the petitioner gott nottice he had been and uent the Length of Kelso Beruick and severall other places on the border in search of him which cost the petitioner a very great expence As Lykeuise the said Vallentyne Broun is debitor to the petitioner for meat drink and Lodging in the soume of fifteen pounds sterling which he uill never gett payment of And seing the expences the petitioner uas att in searching for the said Vallentyne Broune and the fifteen pounds sterling he is yet resting is much more then the three Hundreth merks which is yet unpayed And that their Lordships Have been in use to extend their mercy to others by mitigating of their fyne And Therfore Humblie Craving their Lordships out of their uonted goodnes and bounty to Extend their favour and Clemency to the petitioner And seing he hath payed tuelve Hundreth merks already To declare him free of the forsaid fyne and appoint his bond to be given up as the said petitione bears The saids Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Having Considered the above petitione They heirby declare the petitioner to be free of the above fyne And alloues the Clerks of Councell to delyver up to him the bond granted by the said Vallentyne Broune as principall and the petitioner as Cautioner for him The petitioner first suearing and signing the oath of alleadgance and signing the Assurance to their Majesties King William and Queen Mary appointed by Act of parliament In presence of any of the Lords of privie Councell
