Anent a Petition given in to the Lords of their Majesties privy Councill be Sir James Ramsay of Logie Shewing that quher the saids Lords by their act anno Jaj vjc nyntie two did modifie to the petitioner the soume of Thrie Thousand merks to be payed out of the Earle of Seaforth his fortune and which interloquitor ther Lordships hade been pleased oftner then once to adhere unto after the discussing of two severall bills of Suspensione given in by the Earle ther against And seing throw the petitioners extream age and infirmity he hade been these twelue moneths bygone and upwards afixt to his bed, and haveing non to act for him but his wife a woman above Eightie years of age They are driven to such extreamity of want by the unjust and unhumane Deallings of the Earle of Seaforth and his predecessors That his wyfe has been forced to undergoe a tedious and expensive Journey to London in the winter seasone and severall times to the Earles oun house in the north wher in her returne she could not so much as procure a loan of ane horss from the Earles father The being non to be hade for hire within twentie myles of the place, She was forced to walk the wholl space one foot albeit she came only to seek some releif to his crying necessitie which was occasioned by the petitioners releifing this Earle of Seforths Grandfather from the prisone gates, and to preserve and support his estate he did ingadge himself for a soume now extending to seventie thousand merks for the payment quherof the petitioner has been necessitate to sell both his estate of Denholme and Logie and am thereby redacted to such Pinching necessitities That their Lordships in may last by their act were pleased to recommend to the Lords Commissioners of their Majesties thesaurie to make present payment to the petitioner of ane thousand punds scots upon the petitioners granting assignatione in the termes therinmentioned which the saids Lords have graciously done, And that in effect it appears alse easie for ther Lordships to recover the haill two thousand pund as the one thousand punds which would be a thing Impossible for the petitioner to effectuat Considering both his age and povertie and his wife haveing almost spend the thousand punds she received by her long attendance here upon the partiall payments therof, And hopeing their Lordships would not grudge the continuance of their goodnes to his extream indigencie And therfore humbly suplicating the saids Lords to the effect aftermentioned The Lords of their majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petitione given in to them with instrument mentioned therin and produced therwith be the above Sir James Ramsay They heirby Recomend to the Lords Commissioners of ther Majesties thesaurie To cause effectuall payment be presently made to the petitioner of the above second Thousand punds scots for his present supply and releif And Ordaines the said Sir James to Grant assignatione in favors of the saids Lords Commissioners In and to the said soume of a second Thousand punds Contained in the sentance of privy Councill pronunced at Sir James instance against the said Earle of Seaforth To the effect their Lordships may cause dilligence be done against the said Earle for ther oun re Imbursment and Recomends to Sir Thomas Livingstoune to give all assistance by military force for executeing the said Sentance of Councill.
