Ordor to Lapness Anent the Magistrats and officers of the militia in Kirkuall

The Lords of their Majesties privy Councill for preserving of the peace uithin the steuartry of Orkney Against any disaffected persones who may be uithin the same Doe Heirby Requyre Robert Elphingstoune of Lapness Steuart principall of the said steuartry to take tryall and Informe himself whither the Magistrats of Kirkuall and the officers of the militia uithin the forsaid steuartry as well to burgh as Landward Have qualified themselves for their services in the termes of the Act of parliament By suearing and signing the oath of alleadgance and signing the assurance to their Majesties King William and Queen Mary And appoyntes the said steuart to returne Ane account to the Lords of privie Councell of his dilligence in this matter uith the names and designationes of such of the magistrats and officers of the militia forsaid as Have not qualified themselves in the tearmes abovewryten And in caise the Magistrats of Kirkuall Have not qualified themselves as said is The saids Lords doe Heirby requyre the said steuart of Orkney to see to and preserve the peace of the place

Order to Lopness concerning the magistrates and officers of the militia in Kirkwall

The lords of their majesties’ privy council, for preserving of the peace within the stewartry of Orkney against any disaffected persons who may be within the same, do hereby require Robert Elphinstone of Lopness, stewart principal of the said stewartry, to take trial and inform himself whether the magistrates of Kirkwall and the officers of the militia within the foresaid stewartry as well to burgh as landward have qualified themselves for their services in the terms of the act of parliament by swearing and signing the oath of allegiance and signing the assurance to their majesties King William and Queen Mary, and appoint the said stewart to return an account to the lords of privy council of his diligence in this matter, with the names and designations of such of the magistrates and officers of the militia foresaid as have not qualified themselves in the terms above written. And in case the magistrates of Kirkwall have not qualified themselves as said is, the said lords do hereby require the said stewart of Orkney to see to and preserve the peace of the place.
