Procedure

Approbatione of the Lord Chancellor his causing sease John Linlithgow

The Lords of their Majesties privy Councell Doe Heirby Approve of the Lord High Chancellor his giving ordor for apprehending of John Linlithgow Clark to the Commissioners of Militia in the shyre of Selkirk And for seasing and securing the papers in his Custody relating to the Militia and Levys uithin the said shyre and the shyre of Roxburgh and transporting the said person and papers to Edinburgh And appoyntes the papers to be delyvered in to the hands of the Clarks of Privy Councell And upon the Clarks their receaving the saids papers ordains the said John Linlithgow to be sett at Liberty by the Commander of the partie who seased him or any other persone in whose custody he may be for the tyme

The lords of their majesties’ privy council do hereby approve of [John Hay, earl of Tweeddale] the lord high chancellor his giving order for apprehending of John Linlithgow, clerk to the commissioners of militia in the shire of Selkirk, and for seizing and securing the papers in his custody relating to the militia and levies within the said shire and the shire of Roxburgh, and transporting the said person and papers to Edinburgh. And appoint the papers to be delivered in to the hands of the clerks of privy council, and upon the clerks their receiving the said papers, ordain the said John Linlithgow to be set at liberty by the commander of the party who seized him or any other person in whose custody he may be for the time.
